Why we strive to be an employer of choice

As John Deere works to continually anticipate and prioritise the ever-evolving needs of our customers, it’s crucial we have the right workforce in place to deliver on our vision.

We also understand that a truly great employer, one which genuinely attracts the best and brightest, offers more than just a brand name or reputation.

As part of our strategic workforce plan, John Deere has actively positioned itself as an employer of choice, and diversity is at the heart of this plan.

People need to know they can come to work at John Deere and be themselves, because we believe talented people make the greatest impact at work when they feel comfortable.

I recently made the trip from the United States to visit the John Deere offices in Brisbane and Distribution Centre in Melbourne, gaining more insight into our workforce, customer base, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives in Australia.

I met with Camilla Kelly, Head of People & Culture at John Deere Australia/New Zealand, who has been doing fantastic work in fostering an inclusive workplace culture. We discussed what we were doing well in strengthening diversity, as well as ongoing focus areas.

Camilla and I have regular virtual meetings, but nothing beats being on the ground and experiencing the opportunities firsthand.

People need to know they can come to work at John Deere and be themselves, because we believe talented people make the greatest impact at work when they feel comfortable.

I was inspired by the level of commitment, engagement and innovation of the entire Australian team. There’s a great balance of talent – some who have been with John Deere for 15 years or more, and others who are just at the start of their journey with the company.

This diversity of viewpoints and experiences puts us in a better position to solve problems for our customers, challenging us to think differently and remain at the forefront of innovation.

As a company we have set goals and aspirations for the next three, five and ten years (and beyond), to guide us in prioritising continual improvement in how we mentor, develop and care for our people. Importantly, we continue to attract top talent and we intentionally invest in all our employees to ensure they can achieve our aspirational goals in an innovative and inclusive culture.

Big ideas are nothing without the right people to implement them. That’s why we are always striving to be an employer of choice.
