John Deere, the pick of the crop.
Grant and Robyn Luscombe own several kiwifruit orchards in the north of New Zealand. The couple were looking for a new tractor to do the hard yards on their land, capable of handling smaller spaces and to assist with tasks. They have a 10.5 hectare property in Katikati, 15 hectares in Whangarei and are developing another 15 hectares for orchards.
The orchardists needed a tractor that would perform. “We wanted a rotary hoe to go with it, we needed it to be able to handle relatively smaller areas such as around our house and the kiwifruit nursery, variable speed was necessary, and it needed to be easy to use.” And once they gave the 1025R a test drive, they were sold. “It just felt so good to drive. It’s a nice tractor to ride on. And it does everything we need it to. Simple!”
For their purchase the Luscombes went to their local John Deere dealership, Cervus Equipment NZ. “The dealer was very helpful. Nothing was a problem, we could give them a call and they’d help us out with all of our little questions.” The purchase was, “a very easy process”. And the final decision to buy was an easy one. “The tractor seemed so simple to use and it fitted with our needs. We’re very happy.”
The 1025R Tractor has fitted seamlessly into the Luscombes daily life on the orchards.
“The front end loader is very handy for shifting dirt around, we have a number of paddocks to mow, we use the rotary hoe to dig up the dirt in the nursery… there’s always a job to do of some kind!” And with the tractor being such a nice one to ride on, there’s sometimes a bit of competition to see who gets to take it out. “It’s so good to drive, we just love it!”
