Changing the Game for Professional Turf Managers
Crestmead, Queensland (25 June, 2025) — JOHN DEERE'S professional turf equipment helped to create the most-talked about and toughest golf course in the world this month, and now the company is showcasing its equipment at the Australian Sports Turf Management Conference in Sydney.
Oakmont Country Club, host of this year's US Open, used a variety of John Deere's advanced turf management equipment and technology to increase the bar on this year's playing surface. While John Deere is a brand synonymous with leading innovations in agricultural equipment and precision technology, the company is also recognised globally for its superior turf management equipment.
As a proud official equipment supplier for the PGA Tour, John Deere recognises it's not just professional golfers and sports players who benefit from turf carefully curated with world-class technology and dedicated greenkeepers.
Recreational golf participation in Australia is on the rise, with Golf Australia data showing more than 3.8 million adults playing golf in 2023/24 and club memberships growing by 5.6% for the year, with an impressive 19% growth over the past five years.
John Deere Australia and New Zealand Marketing Manager for Small Ag and Turf, Erin Wagstaff, said the increase in participation emphasises the importance of well-maintained courses to meet players' expectations and to ensure the long-term playability and sustainability of the turf.
"As more Australians head to the greens for a round of golf, clubs and sports turf professionals are under pressure to maintain a high-quality playing surface year-round," Ms Wagstaff said.
"It's a trend that also extends to community sports fields and elite-level venues, where well-maintained pitches are critical to performance, safety, and enjoyment.
"At John Deere, our full suite of machinery and technology solutions, including GPS and John Deere Operations Center™ PRO Golf ensures that ground managers, from golf superintendents to stadium turf managers, have the equipment and tools they need to deliver consistent and professional results."
Display and demos
John Deere's 6700A E-Cut™ Fairway Mower, 225 E-Cut Electric Walk Greens Mower, and ProGator™ 2030A GPS Precision Sprayer will be on display at the conference and will be put through their paces in live demonstrations, along with the 1600T Wide-Area Mower.
Ms Wagstaff said the John Deere team was looking forward to connecting with people across industry to showcase a selection of equipment and highlight the solutions adapted from its leading precision ag technology.
"From electric, through to hybrid technology and our GPS sprayers, we are really excited to showcase their performance and how they can help turf managers save time and money," she said.
"We will also be featuring our golf course management software, Operations Center PRO Golf, which uses features from John Deere's industry leading Operations Center data management platform.
"Through this software superintendents can monitor their fleet's schedule, customise fleet and crew reports, assign jobs and communicate with staff, manage labour costs, schedule maintenance and streamline servicing with a real-time parts inventory."
PRO Golf — 'complete package' for Magenta Shores Golf Club
With a full fleet of John Deere equipment and GPS technology, James Newell, Superintendent of the picturesque Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club on the Central Coast of New South Wales said using PRO Golf is the 'complete package' for managing all aspects of the course.
"I've always used a digital whiteboard so that was quite an easy transition, but being able to add fleet manager in as well is huge," he said.
"The 8000A and 7500A fairway mowers are telematically talking to Ops Center all the time, and the fleet maintenance schedule makes forecasting and ordering parts easy."
The John Deere team will be at Stand 2 at the Australian Sports Turf Management Conference at the Sydney Olympic Park.
