New John Deere Planter Advancements Offer Consistent Emergence and Yield Potential

Enhancements in furrow depth, residue management and logistics help farmers optimise planter performance and seed success.

Crestmead, Queensland (25 February, 2026) – John Deere has released several new planter enhancements to help farmers meet key agronomic success factors, including uniform crop spacing and emergence, correct seed population and optimal nutrient availability.

Advancements in planter technology have been made in furrow application and depth, as well as residue management, uptime and logistics.

"Agronomic success at planting is a critical factor for farmers as their entire season depends on it, and with increased input and seed costs, it's important to do everything possible to ensure the crop gets off to the best start possible, John Deere Production and Precision Ag Marketing Manager, Royce Bell, said.

"We know that uniform emergence can improve crop management and yield potential, and it all starts with placing seed in the right place at the right time. The new planter enhancements facilitate this."

Fertiliser Application Enhancements

Model Year 2027 John Deere planters will have an option for a dual-product fertiliser system that allows operators to apply product in-furrow and/or off to the side, to give the emerging plant the correct nutrients at the most effective time of the growth stage.

The dual-product system includes both ExactShot™ and ExactRate™. ExactShot is John Deere's in-furrow application that delivers nutrients directly to the seed where they are used most efficiently, and has been shown to save up to 60% of in-furrow nutrient input.1 The second part of the dual system is ExactRate, which applies high-value fertiliser off to the side.

The combined system includes dual liquid tanks, and a dual set of stainless-steel fertiliser lines with pumps relocated under the tanks. Both liquid tanks have fertiliser-level sensing, making it easy for the operator to know how much product is available in each tank.

Another update is a new agitation system that keeps certain chemicals suspended and separated in the tank to ensure even product coverage.

An auxiliary tank option enables the use of high-value micronutrients, biologicals, fungicides, and insecticides.

"We have reviewed the entire planting experience and devised a way for the operators to see exactly what is going on in the planter," Mr Bell said.

"From the tractor cab, a display screen shows both fertiliser products on a single run screen. Additional improvements offer the operator the option to select a dose length, and an update of the map coverage page."

The dual fertiliser system is available from the factory on Model Year 2027 1775NT – 16/24R, and DB60 – 24R planters.

Furrow Optimisation

Accurate and precise planter depth settings remove the impact of hidden variables, such as wear, which can contribute to inconsistent depth of the furrow and reduce crop emergence.

New this year to John Deere planters is ExactDepth™, an electric depth control that supports an in-cab, on-the-go range of depth adjustments and individual row unit depth calibrations.

ExactDepth also allows operators to optimise depth with prescriptions for each field and/or sub-field zones. This solution is available on several John Deere planter models, including 1725C, 1775NT, 1795 and DB planters – 36 rows or less.

Furrow residue trials have shown that one day of delayed emergence can reduce plant yield by an average of 6%. John Deere's FurrowVision™ solution helps operators identify when residue is impacting the furrow, allowing them to manually optimise row cleaner settings.

This system features three in-furrow cameras mounted on the planter that provide real-time sectional views of the furrow, as well as depth measurement readings, residue detection filter and additional quality map layers in John Deere Operations Center™.

The Planter Settings Automation simplifies the job of planting and improve operational quality. This includes previously announced features, Active Vacuum Automation and Fluid Transfer Automation.

New for Model Year 27 as an addition to Planter Settings Automation is Downforce Automation. Powered by FurrowVision, Downforce Automation makes it easier to create the best furrow in every field, by assessing ground contact, soil resistance and furrow health to calculate the correct amount of applied downforce.

The automation optimises planter performance based on a number of factors, including initial margin setpoint, soil resistance, furrow health, raw depth, and ground contact.

Planting Logistics

Tight planting windows demand that farmers keep the planter rolling as consistently as possible, and John Deere precision ag options ensure efficient monitoring and operation. Those with the G5 Advanced licence can access Logistics through Operations Center. Logistics provides real-time monitoring of equipment location, work status and estimated time until empty, keeping everyone on the farm informed and updated to ensure seamless refills. Drivers have the information needed to be in the right place at the right time, eliminating the risk of running out of seed in the middle of the field.

Equipment Mobile

Enhancements and updates to Operations Center enabled in the planting space means information is more accurate over time, so that farmers can make more precise decisions quickly and efficiently. Equipment Mobile enhancements offer the option to test row run off and meter performance. Equipment Mobile connects to the Wifi of the machine to enable set up and testing to ensure the machine is ready to go into the field. If changing over to a different seed type or variety, or adjusting planting rates, Equipment Mobile allows any adjustments to be quickly tested/validated.
